In 1975 Camp Denali was bought by Wallace and Jerryne Cole to better share their own love and knowledge of Mount McKinley National Park. It was here that they raised children Land and Jenna. Camp Denali became a private inholdling in 1980 with the expansion and renaming of the park under President Jimmy Carter. In 1986 the former owner of North Face Lodge passed away, making this prime location in view of Denali available for sale. To forestall unchecked commercial development, former Camp Denali guests lent money for the acquisition of this unique homestead. Today North Face Lodge operates at the same intimate size as when the Coles acquired it. In 2005 Simon and Jenna Hamm announced that they will become the next stewards of these special places.
