We work long days, averaging five 9.5-10 hour days/week, with two consecutive days off for a majority of the summer (although you may work less or more, depending on your department and company needs). Many shifts involve early and/or late hours. All of our jobs are physically demanding, and many work your head, heart, and muscles simultaneously.
This opportunity to work in Alaska, experience Denali National Park on an intimate level, and connect deeply with a community of individuals working toward a common goal is uncommon, to say the least.
Working a Camp Denali
Living and working at Camp Denali represents a lifestyle, not just a seasonal job. We are a community of approximately 30 people, ranging in age from 18 years old to 70 years young. We share our summer home with up to 40 guests at a time from all corners of the country and globe.
Our remote location and commitment to stewardship require us to be a resourceful team—we bake it, sew it, build it, fix it, grow it, and recycle it. Through the earnest work of running Camp Denali, we become rooted in the place and bonded to one another. Our shared commitment to providing the best quality experience for our guests in a setting beyond compare propels us through a fast-paced season.
Working at Camp Denali can be an opportunity to learn a variety of skills and develop a strong work ethic. Each summer we employ new-to-Camp-Denali staff as housekeepers and servers, kitchen helpers, cooks, operations crew members, and naturalist guides.
Bringing flexibility and a willingness to help with a range of tasks is part of the ethos of Camp Denali. Most first year and returning staff can expect to work at least two jobs throughout the summer. The summer schedule is a balancing act of our staff's skills, experience, and interests, as well as company needs. We’ll seek to discover what combination of roles will be best for you as part of our application and interview process
Our Staff Cabins
Life at Camp Denali means living simply, closely connected to both nature and your coworkers. All new staff and most returning staff share housing with one or two roommates. Accommodations vary—from bunks in tent-frame cabins to shared one-room cabins. Each space is basic but comfortable, with a bed and storage for your belongings. Outhouses are a short walk away, and showers are shared among the staff.
Because our facilities are communal (and in some cases shared with guests), everyone plays a role in keeping them clean and ready for the next person. Flexibility is key—we assign housing thoughtfully and fairly, but spaces are limited, and neighbors may be close. Some cabins are near guest areas or workspaces that operate at unusual hours, so earplugs can be a helpful companion.
While work is central to life here, so is community. Staff often enjoy time together exploring, playing music, or sharing stories, but we are mindful that our after-hours activities don’t affect the guest experience. Camp Denali maintains a drug-free workplace, and social life here isn’t centered around alcohol. Instead, you’ll find camaraderie, shared adventure, and a supportive team environment.

Living at Camp Denali
Situated in the heart of Denali National Park, our remote location defines our community and informs our uniqueness. Camp Denali is two miles past Wonder Lake, near the end of the 92-mile Denali Park Road. Camp Denali is the only lodge inside the park with a view of the Alaska Range on a clear day.
In our local area, we don't have restaurants, bars, movie theaters, or convenience stores. Camp Denali creates a community that welcomes and appreciates do-it-yourself fun and adventure. The great outdoors usually plays a significant role in staff members' days off. Staff are surrounded by many summers' worth of outdoor adventures and activities—day hikes, overnights with a backcountry camping permit, canoeing on Wonder Lake, fishing, riding bikes, swimming, birding, botanizing, joining a naturalist-guided outing with guests, and more.
Camp Denali’s remote setting is at the heart of who we are. Nestled deep within Denali National Park—two miles past Wonder Lake and near the end of the 92-mile park road—our location shapes both our community and our way of life. With the park road currently closed at Mile 43, we operate as a fly-in lodge. Staff arrive by small plane in late May and remain onsite until the season wraps up in mid-September.
Life here moves at a slower, more connected pace. Walking is our main mode of transportation, with bikes and canoes available for staff use when not needed by guests. For longer adventures, staff can often join naturalist-led outings or catch a ride with those groups for independent hiking, when space allows.
Living and working in such a remote corner of Alaska is both a challenge and a privilege—one that fosters resilience, camaraderie, and a rare closeness to the wilderness.
Arrival & Departure
New seasonal staff are asked to arrive in Anchorage to connect with company-provided transportation to Camp Denali in late May. Exact dates are coordinated during the interview and hiring process. Employees are responsible for the cost of their plane ticket, but a travel stipend is provided upon completion of the full season to help offset travel expenses.
Upon arrival, incoming staff receive one complimentary night at the Parkside Guest House, our charming Bed and Breakfast in downtown Anchorage. This beautifully restored Craftsman-style home serves as a lively bunkhouse, with beds, sofas, and cots available—a great chance to meet and mingle with your summer community. Early the next morning, we provide transportation for the five-hour drive to the Park Entrance, followed by a short flight to Camp Denali.
At the end of the season, we reverse the process: staff are transported back to Anchorage and receive another night at the Parkside Guest House before departing or continuing their Alaskan adventure.
